Caracterizado por el prodigio de la naturaleza, el Parque Nacional “Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla”, mejor conocido como La Marquesa, constituye uno de los atractivos más importantes y concurridos del Estado de México, por sus recursos naturales, culturales e históricos. 

El Parque La Marquesa se localiza al poniente de la Ciudad de México y al Oriente de la Ciudad de Toluca, está enclavado en la sierra de las cruces, por ello ocupa una zona montañosa donde destaca el mirador de las Peñas Barrón, desde donde se aprecian los hermosos escenarios naturales que ofrecen los llanos de este singular lugar. 

El ecosistema de esta zona es muy importante, algunas de sus áreas naturales llegan a alcanzar los cuatro mil metros sobre el nivel del mar. El parque abarca una superficie de 1836 hectáreas de pino, oyamel y cedro. A este atractivo se suman hechos históricos significativos: durante la guerra de independencia se llevó a cabo la Batalla del Monte de las Cruces (entre las fuerza insurgentes de Miguel Hidalgo y los realistas). 

Otro de los aspectos más atrayentes es su clima, en esta zona solo hay dos tipos: el templado y el semifrío, con temperatura natural media anual entre 15° y 18° C. Asimismo la vegetación del parque está conformada por llanos naturales, lomeríos, peñascos, pastizales y extensos bosques de cedro, oyamel, con importantes elevaciones que configuran escenarios y parajes de belleza singular.
