El zoológico de Chapultepec, un histórico espacio de fauna

La palabra zoológico deriva de los vocablos griegos zoon (animal) y logos (ciencia), y juntos se refieren al conocimiento y agrupamiento de animales. María Eugenia Moreno, especialista en el tema explica que en la actualidad, entre las funciones de los zoológicos están obtener conocimiento del reino animal, el esparcimiento y la recreación; la promoción del respeto de la población hacia la fauna y por extensión, hacia la flora.

Los zoológicos de la Ciudad de México son un caso particular, pues representan el primer contacto que tiene gran parte de los habitantes de la ciudad con la biodiversidad y significan una de las principales actividades turísticas en la capital.

Según la especialista, los primeros animales que poblaron este magnífico zoológico fueron mamíferos, como primates, carnívoros, roedores y ungulados que procedieron en primer término de algunos estados de la República como Sonora, Veracruz, Campeche. En segunda instancia del extranjero, llegándose a efectuar intercambios con la India, Francia, Estados Unidos, Perú y Brasil.

Según cifras del INEGI, el zoológico es uno de los espacios recreativos más populares entre la familia mexicana con más de cinco millones de visitas por año. Lo más admirable es su enorme muestra de casi dos mil animales de 250 diferentes especies, en un fascinante marco natural.

¡No lo pienses más, lánzate a este hermoso espacio a conocer su fauna!

Te recomendamos observar y aprender de los animales, como las aves, mamíferos, anfibios y reptiles. Todos están agrupados en hábitats lo más parecidas a las naturales. No te pierdas el mariposario y herpetario (área de reptiles).

Recuerda que está en la primera sección del Bosque de Chapultepec, en la colonia San Miguel Chapultepec de la Delegación Miguel Hidalgo, Ciudad de México.
